Zabaz, the Glimmerwasp from Modern Horizons 2 gives a new focus on the Modular mechanic.

Artifact aggro of recent years has always been based around Arcbound Ravager, whether it more closely resembled Affinity decks of old or the newer Hardened Scales focused builds.

Arcbound Worker is usually included in these decks anyway, and having the actual keyword Modular is now relevant. Scrapyard Recombiner is the only other Modular card that has a power level high enough for Modern, but it's possible that there will be more coming in Modern Horizons 2 as more spoilers are revealed.

Scrapyard Recombiner

It's worth noting that Zabaz is a Legendary creature, so you can't just run multiple copies out in play. This drawback is heavility mitigated by the fact that it will be built into a deck that doesn't mind sending its creatures to the bin and moving counters around, but still important to keep in mind.

The colors on Zabaz's abilities are interesting, but artifact aggro decks usually have the luxury of producing any color of mana through cards like Springleaf Drum, Glimmervoid, and Spire of Industry. Zabaz continues the theme of being impossibly hard to play against for any combat-oriented matchup, as you can simply blow up your own modular creatures that get blocked and suddenly have more power on the creatures that were unblocked. Flying is also obviously a very relevant ability for the purpose of holding a Cranial Plating. We expect Zabaz to be a mainstay in any decks seeking to employ this type of strategy going forward!
